Stefan Scherer is the CTO of Embodied Inc., a leading robotics and AI startup. Embodied's first product, Moxie, is an award-winning, state-of-the-art companion robot that has recently been featured on the cover of TIME Magazine as one of the Best Inventions of 2020. This cutting-edge companion robot supports the development of social and emotional skills in children through play-based learning. Prior to joining Embodied, as a faculty member in Computer Science at the University of Southern California (USC) and the Associate Director of Neural Information Processing at the USC Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT), Stefan led a successful academic career pioneering multimodal machine learning and affective computing research with applications focusing on wicked problems in healthcare (e.g., depression or suicide risk assessment) and education.
