Barrett joined Atlas Venture, an early stage life sciences venture capital fund, in 2002 and is a partner in the life sciences group. Previously, he was a co-founder, Executive Vice President and Chief Business Officer of Celera Genomics. Prior to that, Mr. Barrett held several senior management positions at The Perkin-Elmer Corporation, most recently serving as Vice President, Corporate Planning and Business Development. He currently serves as a director of Vitae Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Zafgen, Inc., as well as several privately held companies, and during the past five years has served as a director of Akela Pharma, Inc., Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Helicos BioSciences Corporation, Momenta Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and SciClone Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Mr. Barrett is currently Vice Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Barrett Institute of Chemical and Biological Analysis at Northeastern University, as well as Adjunct Professor at the Barrett Institute. He also serves as President of the Autism Consortium, a non-profit institution. Mr. Barrett received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Lowell Technological Institute (now known as the University of Massachusetts, Lowell) and his Doctoral degree in analytical chemistry from Northeastern University.

Mr. Barrett has approximately 25 years of experience in the life sciences industry, having served in leadership positions both as a senior executive and as an institutional investor. These roles have allowed him to develop expertise in the deployment of strategic growth initiatives within the industry. His service on the board of directors of other companies, both publicly traded and privately held, enables him to assist our board in the performance of its governance obligations.
