B.G. Kumar is the President of Access Networks, Platforms and MDE at Mavenir. As President of the Multimedia business unit, B.G. Kumar is responsible for leading GENBAND’s Multimedia solutions and R&D divisions worldwide, which encompasses the company’s Session Border Controller, Security Gateway and Application Server and software businesses. A recognized leader in the telecommunications industry, Kumar brings to GENBAND more than 20 years of experience across both leading start-up companies and large publicly traded companies.

He most recently served as Executive Vice President of Engineering and Operations at Mavenir Systems, running worldwide Engineering and Operations teams across five countries, focusing on development of very high scale, high availability ATCA-based distributed platforms for delivering voice, video and messaging solutions for 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE operators.

Prior to Mavenir, Kumar served as Vice President of Softswitch Solutions Engineering within Tekelec’s switching business unit after a company he help build (Vocal Data) was acquired. At Tekelec he led a global engineering team and was responsible for product development, strategy and architecture; and delivery planning and execution.

Kumar began his career with Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies where he held several senior-level leadership positions and was charged with leading engineering teams that provided platforms for next-generation-networking technologies.

He graduated with honors from the Florida Institute of Technology, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Masters in Computer Science.

He is also a graduate of the Institute of Managerial Leadership at the University of Texas at Austin and the Leadership Development Program at Duke University.
