Armin Scheu is the Head of Solution Consulting Smart Cities at Daimler AG.

Cities face increasing environmental pressures and infrastructure needs and growing demands from residents to deliver a better quality of life. Therefore city governments seek to improve their ‘livability’ in cities with mobility being an important cornerstone. The demand for mobility will double in the next 30 years. To satisfy urban citizen’s mobility needs (time-efficient, affordable and convenient) we will need a variety of integrated on-demand eco-friendly transport services. But cities often face an ancient public transport system with certain limitations.

Daimler´s main goal is to leverage the existing infrastructure and combine it with proven new mobility services in order to increase efficiency and handle the rising demand for mobility. Daimler´s ride-hailing engagement with Via, pooling people in fewer vehicles with an intelligent algorithm, is one of their initiatives to supplement public transport systems. Therefore they seek for long-term innovative partnerships with cities and strive to combine our mutual strengths.
